Barisan Sosialis
(English: Socialist Front)
Founded: 29 July 1961
Ceased: 9 August 1965
A Singapore-based political party that splintered from the island's governing PAP, it had friendly relations with MPSF in the Peninsular and SUPP in Sarawak. Once a powerful force in Singapore, it became a minor opposition party after 1966 when it resigned its seats in the Singapore legislature and boycotted elections until 1972. In 1988, its remnants crossed over to WP, its replacement as Singapore's main opposition party.
