Singapore People's Alliance
Founded: 10 November 1958
Dissolved: 16 May 1965
After the Singapore General Election in 1955, the winning Labour Front formed a coalition government with Singapore's UMNO and MCA. Before the 1959 GE, Singapore's then Chief Minister Lim Yew Hock gathered members of LF and other Singapore parties to form SPA to rival the growing PAP. In that GE, SPA allied with UMNO-MCA again but failed to retain power. In the 1963 GE, SPA, UMNO, MCA and MIC, which contested as Singapore Alliance without Lim in the running, met no success and SPA was eventually wounded up. When Singapore became independent, Lim chose to take up Malaysian citizenship.
